Program Description & criteria

The 34th Annual Howard T. Collins Memorial Scholarship program will award multiple scholarships to individuals who are current residents of a property managed by Eden Housing Management, Inc. and who are enrolled in a course of study, are pursuing their educational/academic and/or career advancement/vocational goals. 

 

APPLICANTS MUST:


  • Currently live in a property managed by Eden Housing Management, Inc.
  • Be at least seventeen (17) years old (or a high school senior and/or taking higher education courses).
  • Be pursuing their educational/academic and/or career advancement/vocational goals. *Please note that we cannot consider scholarship applications for applicants pursuing educational or professional endeavors in the cannabis industry.*
  • Completely fill out the application form.  Forms must be submitted electronically online. Incomplete or late applications will be automatically disqualified. Outdated information, including reference letters, will not be accepted.
  • Provide two (2) completed recommendation forms. (See Recommendation Guidelines)
  • Provide most recent transcript(s) of grades (or explanation of why you cannot provide transcripts)
  • Provide a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) (required to submit ONLY if awarded a scholarship. Staff will reach out directly for this information, do not include it on the application)
  • Provide Proof of Enrollment is awarded a scholarship. Checks cannot be issued without proof of enrollment.

DEADLINE:  All of the above items are due by 5:00pm Friday May 8, 2025.We are unable to accept any late applications.  (Applicant is responsible for ensuring that the application is received and complete.)

Your application will be reviewed and scored based on the following criteria:


  •      Academic record
  •      Responses to written questions
  •      Recommendation Forms
  •      Relevant work record, or volunteer work
  •      Complete application required for scoring review


 

Awardee RequirementsShould you be selected as a scholarship recipient and in order to receive your check you will be required to:

1.      Provide proof of enrollment and/or registration in your proposed program.

2.     Sign an Eden Housing, Inc. Resident Release Form

3.     Keep proof of how the money was spent.  This is required if you apply again.

 

While not required in order to receive your scholarship award, we do encourage all recipients to:

  • Attend the scholarship award celebration which will be held either in-person or virtually in the summer.
  • Participate in an informal interview (if invited to do so)
  • Participate in a photo shoot or provide a photo for the event.

You may NOT request funds for payment of EDEN HOUSING RENT. Non-Eden Rent, such as dorm room fees or off-campus apartment that is not an Eden Housing site, is an allowable expense.

RECOMMENDATION FORM GUIDELINES


    1. Please provide the attached recommendation form to the persons

    completing the recommendation on your behalf. Once complete, you can

    upload it to the online application.


    2. We ask that you provide 2 recommendation forms as part of your

    application. Examples of who you can ask to write a letter of

    recommendation on your behalf include:

    • A school official, teacher or counselor, etc.

    • An employer, or coworker

    • A friend, minister, or community leader.

    • Letters of reference from Eden staff or applicant’s family

    members will not be accepted)
